The Social Development Committee invites you to take part in a public hearing on Bill 40.
The Committee will be publicly briefed on the topic and is seeking input from the public on the Bill. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and share their views on the proposed legislative changes, which aim to:
- Allow anyone aged 16 years or old or older to make their own application to change their gender on their birth certificate
- Make the display of the sex field optional on birth certificates
- Register up to four people as the parents of a child on a birth certificate
- Provide a process to register home births without medical attendance
Participate by:
- Attending in person to share your views during the hearing
- Submitting a written submission to @email by April 27, 2026
- Watching live online at www.ntassembly.ca, the Assembly’s Facebook, or YouTube.
About the Bill:
