Chief Electoral Officer

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) is appointed by the Commissioner of the Northwest Territories for a four-year term, following a recommendation to appoint by the Legislative Assembly. The CEO reports to the Legislative Assembly through the Speaker.

The CEO is responsible for administering territorial elections, by-elections, and plebiscites, in accordance with the Elections and Plebiscites Act. The CEO is the head of Elections NWT, a public agency that includes public servants, contract staff, and elections officers.
