Statements in Debates
Thank you, Mr. Chair. To me, it looks like a circular motion. It will just keep us going around in circles, so I would not support it. Thank you, Mr. Chair.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. It is our longer-term goal to extend all of these services to all of the 21 communities that have GSO services. After this pilot project, we will evaluate it and we are hoping to extend it, even though, for the other committees that have GSOs, we continue to provide services to federal government programs. We are hoping that we will be able to expand it to all of the GSO communities.
For these three pilot programs, the federal government is operating on a fee-for-service basis. For the six programs that we deliver on for the GSOs, they are paying us an average of $25 per fee, so at the end of the pilot program we will evaluate the number of services and evaluate and determine the bill that was sent to Service Canada.
Thank you, Mr. Chair. I came in. I expected that I would be able to support the final four motions, but then I hear there were references to, oh, we have to fix “old boys club,” "nudge, nudge, wink, wink," and there are references to not allowing direct or indirect monetary or other personal private interests, suggesting that there is something really wrong. So, in my view, the Code of Conduct and the Oath of Office before us worked fine for me, so I will not be supporting this motion. Thank you, Mr. Chair.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I'm pleased to recognize the manager of the Yellowknife Airport and a constituent of Yellowknife South, Lee Stroman. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Mr. Speaker, I wish to table the following document entitled "Responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action, March 2017." Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to announce the Government of the Northwest Territories has partnered with the Government of Canada to provide more in-person services to the residents of the Northwest Territories, through our single window service centres.
Earlier this year, our two governments launched a 12-month service delivery pilot project in Fort Providence, Fort Liard, and Tuktoyaktuk. Government services officers in these communities are now providing in-person services on behalf of Service Canada, in addition to their current duties for the Government of the Northwest Territories.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I'd like to recognize Marie Speakman, a constituent of Yellowknife South. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Considerable work has started on carbon pricing. The Department of Finance is lead on this, and their two main components on the work to date: first, the work of the federal government to better understand the impact of carbon pricing on the cost of living and doing business in the Northwest Territories, with the introduction of carbon pricing. The second is internal work to better understand the impact of carbon pricing on the various sectors within the Northwest Territories. These will help us design an approach to implementing carbon pricing in the Northwest Territories.
Mr. Speaker, Northwest Territories' residents want a government that is transparent and accountable. On March 3, 2016, for the first time in the Northwest Territories, Members of the Legislative Assembly unanimously adopted a mandate for the Government of the Northwest Territories. The purpose of the mandate is to guide the work of the Government of the Northwest Territories over its four-year term.
Mr. Speaker, the mandate enhances the transparency of the Government of the Northwest Territories by clearly stating what the government commits to do to advance the priorities of the 18th...
