Statements in Debates
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. You know when I hit the NWT side, that's a real highway right to Tsiigehtchic. That highway's really well maintained, and well done to the department. But, you know, soon as you hit the NWT border southbound, right to the corner, you're pounding out shocks, and the wear and tear on not only the regular community trucks but to all the trucking companies too because the upkeep on that highway's so bad.
But, Mr. Speaker, the question I have right now is when will the Minister be doing that joint submission with the Yukon, and is there a timeline on that to get it submitted...
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. It's not too many times I get to stand up and welcome people in the Assembly. But I'd like to welcome Manitoulin vicepresident of operations, Mr. Kevin Ramsay, into the House today. And welcome, Kevin, and thank you for all the work that he is doing and all the donations that he does in the Beaufort Delta for all communities. And it doesn't go unnoticed. Thank you very much.
I'll start over again. I move, second by the honourable Member from Frame Lake, that the Committee Report 5319(2), Standing Committee on Economic Development and Environment Report on Supporting Northern businesses be deemed read and printed in Hansard in its entirety. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, I really want to help my Minister in regards to seeing if what we can do other than, you know, relaying messages back and forth. I'd like to see if the Minister's willing to bring the superintendent of the RCMP to meet with the MLAs in caucus or in AOC, our Regular Members, just to give us an update on what's the protocol and what happens when something like this happens? Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. It's a heavy heart today I have to ask these questions.
Mr. Speaker, Frank Gruben's been missing for 26 days, last seen in Fort Smith. Mr. Speaker, I'm going to ask my Minister what is the detachment responsible for in the search and rescue of missing Aboriginal peoples? Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, I will bring it forward to the accountability and oversight committee chair to see if we could bring the detachment or superintendent to meet us with in regards to what happens.
Mr. Speaker, there is not even a list of missing people, Aboriginal people across our territory. And that's what I want to bring forward to the Minister today. There's something has to be done to make a list and let people know that's what's happening. And I think we could do a better job in regards to that. I want to help my Minister to make it better for all of us across the...
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, the investigator at the detachment is responsible for searching for Frank, and is there any expertise that was given and provided to the Fort Smith detachment from Yellowknife? Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. On May 6th, Mr. Speaker, Frank Gruben was last seen in Fort Smith. Twentysix days have passed. After speaking to his mother today, I want to shed light on it again.
Twentysix days dedicated volunteers searched for Frank every single day. Mr. Speaker, I want to thank each and every one of them for doing what they're doing.
Applause
They've been working tirelessly, searching for Frank, and those who are doing everything they can do to bring Frank home. The volunteer groups and friends of the family searching for Frank, Salt River First Nation; Fred Daniels, mayor; Frieda...
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Last year the Minister said to the House that there would be a postseason evaluation. I understand that what went wrong to present the sailing schedule from last year? Considering the evaluation, can the Minister assure this House that MTS will reach all communities in Nunakput earlier than August this year and stick to the schedule? Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, my Member's statement today was in regards to shipping with MTS in regards to servicing Nunakput communities. Last year shipment, again, Mr. Speaker, did not make it to Sachs Harbour and the goods were left in Paulatuk. Many of the goods were flown into the community at no cost to the residents, which I'm really grateful for the department for doing that. But, Mr. Speaker, there's still goods sitting in Paulatuk that was so it's an unfinished delivery.
Can the Minister tell the House when all the goods from last year will make it into Sachs Harbour? Thank...
