Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Your committee would like to report on its consideration of Bill 80, Dental Hygienists Profession Statutes Amendment Act.

Bill 80, a Private Member's bill advanced by the MLA for Kam Lake, received second reading in the Legislative Assembly on March 30th, 2023, and was referred to the Standing Committee on Social Development for review. The standing committee held a public hearing in Yellowknife on May 12th, 2023. Committee heard from two stakeholders and received two written submissions on the bill. On August 3rd, 2023, committee held a clausebyclause review of the bill...

Thank you. I’d like to also welcome everyone back into the House for the final sitting of the 19th Assembly. I also want to welcome back the residents of Yellowknife as well as those who were displaced for so long in the South Slave. I am very proud of the strength and resiliency of the residents of the NWT, of how people took care of each other. My social media feeds were full of people pitching in, sharing information, and providing resources to those less fortunate. It was truly heartwarming.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, I've heard others say that this is not the time for this conversation in the middle of an emergency. However, I would completely disagree with that statement. This is exactly the time now to bring the Indigenous governments in and use them to bring their people home. They know who their people are. They're looking for them themselves. So bringing them in as soon as possible would actually avoid more catastrophe down south that we're hearing about as Regular Members. I understand that Cabinet is very busy, so perhaps they haven't had the time to really delve...

I won't reiterate a lot of what my colleagues have said but I do want to also point out that given in the past that, as we dealt with COVID and the payments that came out around that, there were a lot of community promises made that communities would be paid back for costs they incurred, and then that was never followed through on when the federal money came through. So I just want to ensure that Cabinet realizes that that can't happen again this time and that any money and promises made to communities that, you know, they were going to have things paid back for or...

Thank you. I believe that Indigenous governments should have been consulted and given the opportunity to deal with their own people before they were shipped south to be treated terribly down there. Thank you.
