Statements in Debates
Merci, Monsieur le President. I want to thank the Minister for that. She may need to discuss this matter further with her staff.
But the summary seemed to indicate that the Chamber of Mines is having direct input into ministerial correspondence in changing the work done by a consultant hired through a public procurement process. Can the Minister tell us how much access the Chamber of Mines has been given to ministerial correspondence and the draft work of publicly hired and funded consultants. Mahsi, Mr. Speaker.
Thanks, Madam Chair. I notice that one of the stories on CBC today is that Air Canada used $10 million of this sort of funding to pay bonuses to its senior executives. Is any of this money that is being given, is it being used for the same sort of purposes here? Thanks, Madam Chair.
Merci, Monsieur le President. My question is for the Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment.
Yesterday, I tabled meeting summaries from the GNWTChamber of Mines COVID19 recovery working group. Can the Minister tell us whether she was aware of and authorized the full scope of discussions being held between senior ITI officials and the Chamber of Mines throughout these meetings. Mahsi, Mr. Speaker.
Thanks, Madam Chair. Yeah, there's a large item here, almost $15 million support for the NWT aviation industry. I understand most of this money comes from the federal government. But can someone explain to us how this money is allocated amongst various airlines that operate in the Northwest Territories. Thanks, Madam Chair.
Thanks, Madam Chair. Sorry, do we want to try to squeeze in the standing committee report? Okay, all right. Just checking.
Madam Chair, I move that the chair rise and report progress.
Thanks, Madam Chair. That's great to hear because I know one of the reasons why it's here again is because the work couldn't be done last summer with COVID restrictions. So can the Minister tell us when the department expects to have the survey results available to us as MLAs and for the public? Thanks, Madam Chair.
Merci, Monsieur le President. In our last sitting, I made a statement on this government's less than adequate first attempt at integrated climate change reporting. Unfortunately, there was not much to report given the lack of progress over the last year. This may have been partially due to COVID but is also rooted in the faulty design of the climate change approach from the last Cabinet that carries over into this Assembly.
So what's changed since February? Our neighbour to the west has joined a growing international movement to plan and implement more stringent emission targets to keep this...
Thanks, Madam Chair. Yes, one of the issues that I had with the Whati transmission line back in 2019, and remains so today, is for the cost of the project and I tabled documents in the last Assembly showed for the cost of doing the Whati transmission line, you could actually get mini hydro in three Tlicho communities for about the same cost. So why would we build this huge transmission line to one community when we could actually get sustainable alternative energy in three different communities? I just don't get it. Can the Minister tell me whether any analysis has been done around that...
Thanks, Madam Chair. I remember sitting in the Chamber in August of 2019 when the House approved, I didn't agree with it, money for the Whati transmission line. Have we actually spent any money on this? Thanks, Madam Chair.
Thanks, Madam Chair. So I think I what I can take from our guest is that we're just setting up the system now and that we'll have a clearer sense, I don't know a year from now, of what some of the reasons are for the large carryovers that we're incurring; is that I guess what I'm hearing? Thanks, Madam Chair.
