Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 130)

Thank you, Madam Speaker. And I thank the Minister for that response. Madam Speaker, can the Minister tell me has the technical assessment of the Riverview Lodge in Hay River been completed, and if not, where is it in the process that the Minister previously indicated was underway? Thank you.

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 130)

Thank you, Madam Speaker. Madam Speaker, Hay River has an increasing seniors’ population and there is a need for new multiresidential barrierfree housing in Hay River. As it stands now, in Hay River we currently we have two senior complexes, with a combined count of approximately 33 units. Madam Speaker, Riverview Lodge, a seniors’ complex in Hay River, is nearing its endoflife, and there appears to be no immediate plan on the books to replace it.

Last February, the Minister responsible for Housing NWT stated that, and I quote: "The corporation anticipates being able to operate this facility...

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 130)

Thank you, Madam Speaker. Madam Speaker, I move, seconded by the honourable Member for Hay River North, that Bill 58, an Act to Amend the Legislative Assembly and Executive Council Act, No. 2, be read for a third time. And Madam Speaker, I am requesting a recorded vote. Thank you.

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 130)

Thank you, Madam Speaker. That's interesting with the findings there and, you know, when I've had the opportunity to go in the building, you know, I might have a difference of opinion. But anyways, Madam Speaker, can the Minister tell those seniors in Hay River whether their planning for a new seniors multiresidential facility has been completed or at least started with an estimated timeframe. Thank you.

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 130)

Thank you, Madam Speaker. Our NWT's senior population is ever increasing. Just to maintain a home, it's becoming an issue for many seniors. Winter is especially difficult for many. General home maintenance is difficult to maintain and is very costly. Accessibility and comfort is an issue. Seniors need barrierfree access. Madam Speaker, seniors want to know they are a priority to this government. Can the Minister responsible for Housing NWT inform this House how her department is actively addressing housing needs for an increasing number of NWT seniors? Thank you.

Thank you, Mr. Chair. I will take that as a comment from the Member. Thank you.

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 129)

Yes, Mr. Chair.

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 129)

Thank you, Madam Speaker. I too will support this motion. You know, it's always hard to talk about this because it affects, you know, not only the people in our communities and the territories but also family members as well. So, you know, anything we can do and this government can do, I think it's important. And I would hope that, you know, and I've said this before, is that, you know, we got to go back to remembering why we're here, and that's for the people of the Northwest Territories. That means for the youth, you know, for adults, for seniors. And they're all you know, there's that...

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 129)

Thank you, Madam Speaker. So she's hitting 50 for 50 so we'll see if she passes the exam. I'd like to ask the Minister does our current legislation allow for the combination of lights to be changed? For instance, if tow trucks wanted to go to amber a combination of amber/blue, is that possible within current legislation? Thank you.
