This video produced in 1990 by the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation, which is outdated now, still offers a fascinating look at NWT's history.

The Travelling Assembly

Before the current Legislative Assembly building opened in 1993, we were known as the Travelling Assembly. This meant that we would hold session in various communities throughout the Northwest Territories (which at the time also included Nunavut). This was a way for government to interact directly with the people across such a grand region, and helped cement the authority of the Government of the Northwest Territories. It also allowed the people to directly interact and witness government in action in their very own communities.
