Integrity Commissioner Dismisses Complaints Lodged Against Former Members

YELLOWKNIFE (Tuesday, February 6, 2024) -- The Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly Integrity Commissioner, Mr. David Phillip Jones, Q.C. has investigated and dismissed complaints lodged against the then-Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Great Slave, Katrina Nokleby and the then-Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Sahtu, Paulie Chinna.

The Integrity Commissioner received a complaint alleging that then-MLA Katrina Nokleby breached the Members’ Code of Conduct during a verbal interaction on Sunday, October 1, 2023. This launched an investigation by the Integrity Commissioner that resulted in a dismissal of the complaint under section 102(2)(a) of the Legislative Assembly and Executive Council Act.

The Integrity Commissioner received a complaint alleging that then-MLA and Minister Paulie Chinna breached the Members’ Code of Conduct during a verbal interaction on August 10, 2023 at the Inuvik airport cafe. This launched an investigation by the Integrity Commissioner that resulted in a dismissal of the complaint under section 102(2)(a) of the Legislative Assembly and Executive Council Act.

As stated in the Legislative Assembly and Executive Council Act, the Integrity Commissioner is mandated to compile a report outlining the details of his investigation. The Act requires the report to be presented to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, the Members of the Legislative Assembly, and the public upon completion. As required by the Act, the report will be tabled on the first day of the next sitting of the Legislative Assembly.
