Statements in Debates
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Last evening, ironically, I just met with the NWT Association of Communities and they also had some concerns regarding the recommendations from the City of Yellowknife, so I have agreed to also work with them. So at this moment we are just in the process of pulling together a meeting so that all communities' municipal governments have a say in where we're going with the recommendations from the City of Yellowknife. Thank you.
The department actually reviewed and considered all of the recommendations contained within the report. At the moment, we are working on the implementation of the most critical ones, so right now we're looking at establishing in our legislation a special fund for the lottery operations. We are also in the process of calling together our five partnering sports organizations. The purpose of that will be to review the sectorialwide policy, and, also, we will be looking at all of the recommendations within the report, to obtain their feedback on where we should be moving forward.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs selected the contractor for this project through the standard request for proposal process, so that means we put out a call for proposals that was publicly distributed. The Sutcliffe Group was the only respondent to this request for proposals, but their bid matched the criteria that we were looking for in the request for proposals. Therefore, we awarded the contract to this group. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I would like to recognize my brother, Stan Cochrane, and his wife, Karen Cochrane, who have joined me today to honour my father and the veterans of wars. There are also constituents of the Range Lake riding and local businesses involved in the mineral exploration field. Thank you.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, the Government of the Northwest Territories has made a commitment in its mandate to support and participate in a National Inquiry into Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls in collaboration with families, Aboriginal governments, the federal government, and other organizations.
I am pleased to report that on August 3, 2016, the Government of Canada formally launched the national inquiry. The launch included the appointment of five Commissioners to lead this work along with the Terms of Reference for the Inquiry. The Commissioners have been directed...
Mr. Speaker, I wish to table the following document entitled "Government of the Northwest Territories: Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity Review Final Report." Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
Mr. Speaker, of all the horrific acts humans commit, there is none more grievous then war, though of all the acts of valor people commit, there is none greater than serving in a time of a war. It is with this contradiction in mind that I speak before this House on the subject of Remembrance Day.
Throughout our history, men and women of all races, creeds and ages have served in some form or another with great distinction in countless military engagements. Some storming the fields of Passchendaele, Juno and Zabul, while others tended to the home front assuring those who fought would come back to...
Currently, the implementation is not in the business plan.
As stated before, we have put forward a proposal to the standing committee; we are hoping that they will be reasonable and in recognizing that 911 is one of the initiatives that we are looking at if we can get the reductions that we need to be able to put money into new initiatives.
Currently, the complete implementation of 911 is currently not in the new business plan; however, we have been working with the MLAs and the Minister responsible for Finance has promised that if we can get reductions during this business year that we will be looking at spending money on new initiatives. 911 is one of the new initiatives that we are looking at pushing forward if we can save money currently and use that money for later implementation.
