Debates of , 18th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 52)

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Mr. Chairman, I just have one question on medical travel: is that 100 per cent of the budget that we have here in front of us? Thank you.

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 52)

Marci cho, Mr. Speaker. I, too, would like to recognize some young ladies from Daughters of the Vote. First I'd like to recognize Laney Beaulieu. Laney Beaulieu is my brother Danny's granddaughter. I'd like to recognize two other young girls whose families originate from Fort Resolution: Jaylene Delorme-Buggins, Olivia Villebrun. Also, I'd like to recognize Dennis Drygeese and Maro Sundberg. Thank you.

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 52)

Thank you, Mr. Chair. Mr. Chair, one more question: are individuals living in public housing eligible to be foster parents?

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 52)

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Mr. Chairman, I just have a couple of more questions on Child and Family Services programs. One of the things that keeps coming up with me in my riding is that, if there are issues with children and then the relatives intervene and end up taking control of the children, they are not eligible to have any support unless it goes through the court system. I understand that they are also not an approved foster home, and I know that is what the issue is.

I am wondering if the Minister could tell me if there has been any work done towards approving the approval process of...

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 52)

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Mr. Chairman, there is a substantial budget in place for Child and Family Services, as we can all see. I almost view Child and Family Services or child apprehension 100 per cent preventable. I am wondering if the Minister could commit to doing some work on more than just what appears on the surface and reasons for apprehending children and looking deeper into the reasons behind the child apprehensions or even the reasons behind how the department and the families end up with a plan of -- I can't remember the term that the Minister just used, but the plan, then to try...

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 51)

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Mr. Chairman, moving on to a different topic, I noticed that the homecare and support services has been decreased a bit. It actually has sort of decreased over the last three fiscal years. Also, that there had been some marginal increase to the mental health and addictions. Like I had indicated during my opening remarks on this department, that's a huge cost driver for the department and I think there should be more funding put into at least those two areas. Thank you, Mr. Chairman.

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 51)

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Mr. Chairman, I would like to ask the Minister, on the contract section, what type of term? I realize there is a lot of detail, but what type of term on the contracts for this care, the length of the contract? Thank you, Mr. Chair.

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 51)

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I have no further questions on this side.

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 51)

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Mr. Chairman, I think there are a lot of good items and a lot of money wellspent or planned to be wellspent in this budget. I just want to touch on, in no particular priority, some of the items that I will be exploring as we go through the budget with Health and Social Services.

Longterm care, I think, is something that the department is heading in the right direction. I am very pleased with the fact that we are able to provide longterm care regionally, the fact that people from Fort Smith can go into longterm care in their own community, Hay River. Hay River...

Debates of , 18th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 51)

Marci, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, currently, at this time, how are existing addictions programming targeted to serve the youth? Thank you.
