(YELLOWKNIFE) Friday, October 3, 2025 – The Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly Integrity Commissioner, Mr. David Phillip Jones, K.C., has investigated and dismissed a complaint against the Member for Nahendeh, Mr. Shane Thompson.
The complaint, submitted by Mr. Benjamin Adams, principal of Liidlii Kue Elementary School in Fort Simpson, alleged that Mr. Thompson breached the Members’ Code of Conduct by interfering in school operations and supporting a recommendation for Mr. Adams’ termination. Following a thorough review, the Integrity Commissioner determined that while Mr. Thompson’s use of MLA resources in one instance constituted a minor contravention of the Code, it was an error of judgment made in good faith.
The Integrity Commissioner dismissed the complaint under section 102(2)(a) of the Legislative Assembly and Executive Council Act, concluding that:
- The contravention was minor and committed through an error of judgment made in good faith;
- There are insufficient grounds to warrant an inquiry; and
- The public interest would not be served by proceeding to an inquiry before a Sole Adjudicator.
As required under the Legislative Assembly and Executive Council Act, the Integrity Commissioner has prepared a detailed report of the investigation (see attached).The report will be tabled by the Deputy Speaker on October 16, 2025.No further action is required, as the complaint has been dismissed.
