The Social Development Committee invites you to take part in a public hearing on Bill 27: An Act to Amend the Protection Against Family Violence Act.
The Committee will be publicly briefed on the Bill from the Honourable Jay Macdonald, Minister of Justice, and is seeking input from the public on the Bill. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and share their views on the proposed legislative changes, which aim to strengthen protections for victims of family violence and expand who can access them.
What is Bill 27?
Bill 27 proposes to strengthen the Protection Against Family Violence Act by:
Expanding who can apply for Emergency Protection Orders (EPOs)
Recognizing stalking (including online harassment) as a form of family violence
Introducing a new civil legal action (a tort) for victims of stalking
Making the language in the Act more gender inclusive
Participate by:
Attending in person to share your views during the hearing
Submitting a written submission to @email by August 29, 2025
