Statements in Debates

Debates of , 16th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 22)

Mr. Chairman, under Stanton Territorial Health Authority I see we have five in growth. Is that a net gain of five, or was there a growth of, say, 6 or 7 and the loss of a couple? Is that a net, or what type of change has happened at the Stanton Hospital?

Debates of , 16th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 22)

Through this program is the Government of the Northwest Territories paying for the training for RNs to become NPs at a rate at which we cannot fill empty positions? Because they do not exist. If that’s the case, how many do we have in training school? How many have we trained to date? How many openings do we have to provide for these people who have taken this training the territorial government has paid for?

Debates of , 16th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 22)

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I’m just trying to get a grip on some positions here. Are all the positions listed on this page funded?

Debates of , 16th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 22)

Thank you, Mr. Chairman, and thank you, colleagues, for that.

Mr. Chairman, there’s a section under Human Resources, and it talks about recruitment and retention. If I understand it, there’s the difficulty of balancing this out. I’m just trying to find out what the activities are that this would apply to. If I can get some breakdown as to some examples of how they’re reaching out.

Debates of , 16th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 20)

Mr. Speaker, I seek unanimous consent to return to Item 5, recognition of visitors in the gallery.

Unanimous consent granted.

Debates of , 16th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 20)

Has the Department of Housing considered giving it to Aurora College as an asset for them so they can include it in their programming as opposed to just giving it away to an organization?

Debates of , 16th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 20)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I’ll have questions to the Minister of Housing. My questions are about the subject of the Sambaa K’e Healing Lodge.

Mr. Speaker, I’ve been informed recently that a deal has been reached with another organization to turn this into a training centre. I’m just trying to get some sense as to what’s actually happening, who will be responsible for the cost of that and who will be the benefactors.

Can the Minister of the NWT Housing Corp tell me exactly who is in control of this now? Are they paying for the full cost of running this facility? Who owns the facility?

Debates of , 16th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 20)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker, and thank you, whomever.

Mr. Speaker, the issue really is: can the Minister tell me how he plans to get out there and get that feedback? He did say his department is monitoring the situation, but how is he getting out there to get feedback from the general citizenship of the Northwest Territories?

Debates of , 16th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 20)

I actually didn’t hear the answer. I was trying to listen very carefully. Would the Minister be willing to get out there and call for a public dialogue on these issues to make sure that we’re hearing the needs of our citizens out there and absolutely making sure we’re meeting the basic needs of our citizens?

Debates of , 16th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 20)

How much money is housed in that CARE program?
