Motion on Member Vaccination Passed

YELLOWKNIFE (November 23, 2021) – On November 22, 2021, a motion was passed in the House to require Members of the Legislative Assembly to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend sittings, other Assembly proceedings, and Committee meetings in the building.

On November 1, 2021, the Assembly’s Board of Management approved the Legislative Assembly Building COVID-19 Vaccination Policy that outlines vaccination requirements for staff and contractors, as well as Members attending the building when not participating in the previously-noted situations. The Board does not have the authority to impose a vaccination requirement on Members during sittings of the House, other Assembly proceedings, or Committee meetings, which prompted Caucus to proceed with yesterday’s motion.

“I’m proud to be part of an Assembly that is completely vaccinated and carried this motion with a unanimous vote,“ said Caucus Chair Rylund Johnson. “By holding ourselves to this standard, it is my hope that others will be encouraged to get vaccinated.”

The motion takes effect today and continues until the current session is prorogued, or until the motion is formally rescinded by the House.
