Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 132)

Thank you, Madam Speaker. Municipal and Community Affairs does provide funding for 36 youth centres across the Northwest Territories under the Youth Initiative Program. We contribute about $14,000 to each facility to support their operations. MACA is committed to establishing an interdepartmental working group on youth to provide the GNWT a forum that will be able to coordinate youth programs and services to support local community priorities. And that's part of the youth strategy that we're working on.

However, the question that the Member asked, if there's a community that wishes to establish...

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 132)

Thank you, Madam Speaker. Madam Speaker, this program continues to support children, primarily from the age of 0 to 5, for program opportunities to support physical literacy, an important part of development in long you know, lifelong active lifestyles. As I said previous in the other question, I can commit to work with the department and committee during the main review to consider future funding for this program. It is very important. It does some really good benefits. It starts at a young age and the work that's done in the community. So, yes, I will work with committee to review this...

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 132)

Thank you, Madam Speaker. Madam Speaker, again, it just reverts to the first question. When the Member reached out to me, we had a conversation and we looked at their oneyear proposal. And one of the things we talked about was we need to expand it. We can expand it for up to three years. So I guess I can commit to a new multithreeyear agreement with the Kole Crook Fiddle Association on top of the one year we already got right now. The association submitted a proposal. We're going back and forth to fix up the second and third year again. So again, I would like to confirm that we are working on...

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 131)

Thank you. As everybody else here, I'd like to thank Brian, you know, for all the service. I've been able to have the pleasure of working with him and looking up at these beautiful lights. There is one left out there, so we need to get that fixed before you leave. So it started out with Glen and then Glen passed on the or Minister Abernethy passed it on to me. So I've kept him on his toes, so he left one, so we'll work on that. And welcome, Mr. Powder. You will now have the pleasure of me tormenting you about these lights as well. So thank you very much.

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 131)

Thank you, Madam Speaker. I'm hoping that he's back here, my ministerial special advisor, Jeff Rate. It's his birthday, so I just want to wish him a happy birthday and hopefully he's in the building to hear it. Fine, he it's not. Oh well, I wish him a happy birthday anyway. Thank you, Madam Speaker.

Thank you, Madam Speaker. Madam Speaker, on Wednesday, September 7, both Liidlii Kue elementary and high school staff and students said farewell to Mr. Bernie Leader as he entered into a muchdeserved retirement. Mr. Leader has supported the staff and students as a support assistant for the past 23 years, where he made a lifelong contribution to our students' education needs. Overall, he's been a pillar of support in our local education system and will be dearly missed.

Madam Speaker, to acknowledge Mr. Leader's ascension going into retirement, the schools gathered in the elementary school gym...

Debates of , 19th Assembly, 2nd Session (day 130)

Madam Speaker, this government works to support Northerners who want to get out on the land and participate in the traditional activities as part of sustainable livelihoods. Since marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in September, I have thought about our efforts to promote sustainable livelihoods and support residents of the Northwest Territories, and the mandate commitments of this government all serve to create a critical mass that builds bridges and strengthens partnerships.

Northerners, and particularly Indigenous peoples, have important connections to the land, water...
