Shane Thompson a été réélu à la 20e Assemblée législative des Territoires du Nord-Ouest après avoir siégé aux 18e et 19e Assemblées, représentant la circonscription de Nahendeh. M. Thompson est l'honorable président de la 20e Assemblée législative des Territoires du Nord-Ouest.

M. Thompson a été élu pour la première fois à la 18e Assemblée en novembre 2015 et a présidé le Comité permanent des affaires sociales. Il a également fait partie du Comité permanent des priorités et de la planification, du Comité permanent des règles et des procédures et du Comité de sélection.

M. Thompson est né le 11 juillet 1963 à Hay River. Après avoir vécu à Kugluktuk (Coppermine), à Inuvik, à Hay River et à Edmonton (au cours de ses études à l’Université de l’Alberta), il s’est établi à Fort Simpson en 1992.

M. Thompson a précédemment été, pendant deux mandats de trois ans chacun, administrateur élu au sein de l’Administration scolaire de district de Fort Simpson, exerçant le rôle de président durant les quatre dernières années. Au cours des 35 dernières années, il a siégé à divers conseils communautaires et territoriaux.

Avant d’être élu député, M. Thompson travaillait comme coordonnateur principal des sports et des loisirs au ministère des Affaires municipales et communautaires du gouvernement des TNO, dans la région du Dehcho.

M. Thompson a été diplômé du programme de leaders en loisirs communautaires du Collège de l’Arctique en 1989, et il suit actuellement un programme de certificat de maîtrise en évaluation à l’Université de Victoria et à l’Université Carleton. Il a également fait trois ans d’études pour obtenir un diplôme en éducation à l’Université de l’Alberta.

M. Thompson est un bénévole actif pour Northern Youth Abroad, la CBET et Fundamental Movement, ainsi que HIGH FIVEMD. De même, il a été membre du conseil d’administration de la Fédération sportive du Nord, de l’Association de balle molle des TNO et de l’Association des parcs et des loisirs des TNO, ainsi que président du terrain de golf Seven Spruce.

M. Thompson est père de sept enfants – cinq filles et deux fils – et a neuf petits-enfants.

Il est juge de paix depuis 1991.

And I thank the Member for that. So the Member is correct as soon as it was safe we had our pathfinders in. We are working with impacted residents and that. So we are encouraging people to register, whether it's online or into the Hay River evacuation centre. As I said, we've had people going door to door on the reserve. Municipal and Community Affairs is working with the community handinhand. We were working with the communities before. Our regional staff are working with their staff in the and I am been in constant contact with the leadership and having that conversation of what we need to do, how we can work together, and that's the most important aspect about the communities lead, and we are there to support. Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Before I answer that question, I'd like to thank the Member for his statement. It was bang on. The leadership in K’atl’odeeche, the Chief, did an amazing job. And also the Member, we had been in constant communication throughout this disaster.

Member’s Statement 1078-19(2): Fort Simpson Speed Skating Club

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, today I would like to talk about the Fort Simpson Speed Skating Club.

Mr. Speaker, the Fort Simpson Speed Skating Club is a strongminded youth who have been working hard over the last two years to keep attending practices and competitions despite all the COVID19 related closures.

This year the team traveled to Yellowknife for the NWT championships in February, and the whole team's mental and physical strength was tested. Every individual brought home huge personal best times and increased selfconfidence. Mr. Speaker, I had the opportunity to watch these...

Question 1073-19(2): Canada Community Revitalization Fund

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, like I said previously, we've given $9 million to communities with some real good flexibility to it. They have the ability to use that money as they see fit where they need to address their pandemic issues.

Moving forward, we understand that, you know, COVID's going to be a part of the process and we are encouraging municipal governments to start budgeting accordingly. But we're more than willing to sit down and work with them with their budgeting process as we move forward. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
