Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 21)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I’m seeing a small crack at the door here where there seems to be…(inaudible)…to do this. I could go on with great example, but I think the Minister is hearing the issue.

Would the Minister be willing to put this paper together, provide a proposal to committee members on this side of the House before we begin our May session this year? I want to make sure that we start doing this in a timely way. The last thing we want to hear is some day we will get to it, but that means nothing to the public.

Would the Minister be willing to meet the challenge of this particular...

I want to thank the team effort on that answer. I could hear various folks giving the answer. How do we amend this act? Would the Minister of Human Resources be willing to bring forward amendments to the Access to Information and Privacy Act to accommodate this type of step that has, as I have highlighted, been done by six out of 10 provinces and, of course, that also now includes the Mackenzie Valley Review Board, who have all taken the courageous step to publicize their salaries and honoraria. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 21)

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I have three constituents in the gallery and I’d certainly like to recognize and give them their due Grant Gowans, Julie Green and certainly His Worship Mark Heyck. As well, I’d like to acknowledge Chief Minnie Letcher, I haven’t seen you in a number of years and, as well, I’d also like to acknowledge the Anti-Poverty Committee and thank them for their work and their commitment to the people of the Northwest Territories. The work that they do is certainly significant and important. Thank you.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 21)

Thank you, Mr. Chair. He said he would provide the list. Again, I assume it is a breakdown of funded, unfunded, et cetera. I am seeing nods from the staff’s heads, so it sounds like that is everything I need. Thank you.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 21)

I guess I don’t have much of a follow-up because, quite frankly, I’m not sure what to say now because I was given the impression that they had studied this and had some paperwork behind it.

I don’t want to tie too much more committee time up on this, but I don’t necessarily think that those are the right things studied, and when you consider the Hay River rack price of gasoline today is 90 cents – 90.1 cents, by the way – it does lend oneself to wonder where the additional 48 cents, almost 50 cents are coming from. So how does a gain of 50 cents between Hay River rack price and Yellowknife...

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 20)

My last couple minutes I’m going to use focusing in on assessment and in some manner or form linking it to the particular student as and when necessary. It’s a good refresher here, and I thank MLA Bisaro for reminding me of telehealth mechanisms, tools, and instruments we have in many small communities, maybe not every one. I believe the funding should follow the student once we’ve identified them for what particular need they are so we cater appropriately for them.

Has the Department of Education used these types of tools and instruments such as telehealth in order to help identify this...

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 20)

Although, of course, we’re not on page 10-6, I would draw people’s general attention to it, and it cites under inclusive schooling it ensures through guidelines and contributions that all NWT students are entitled to access an educational program in a regular institution setting in their home community. I appreciate the insight Deputy Minister Eggenhofer has offered, and that said, I’m just curious now about the diagnosis portion of it. I didn’t realize that was actually part of the funding of it, and if it is, can we help to figure out what the funding is and how that’s broken out, because as...

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 20)

Mr. Chair, it was my understanding that the department was going to proceed with the planning study in the year 2014-15. Had that been changed? Thank you.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 20)

Is it safe to say that that money is broken out evenly? I think there are 10 school boards that are represented there. Is it safe to say that it’s broken out evenly amongst the school boards? Thank you.

Debates of , 17th Assembly, 5th Session (day 20)

Mr. Chair, I was just wondering: would the department be able to provide me the costs associated directly with the Yellowknife campus? What I’m after is the yearly lease costs that they pay. Thank you.
