Députée de Great Slave

Kate Reid a été élue députée de la circonscription de Great Slave à la 20e Assemblée législative des Territoires du Nord-Ouest.

Mme Reid est née à Oshawa (Ontario) en 1981 et habite Yellowknife depuis 1989. Elle est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en journalisme de l’Université métropolitaine de Toronto (2003) et d’une maîtrise en sciences de l’information de l’Université de Toronto (2009).

À la fin de sa maîtrise, elle a rejoint les Archives des TNO, où elle a travaillé près de dix ans. C’est là qu’a germé sa passion pour la préservation et le partage des histoires qui peignent le portrait de notre territoire et de son gouvernement. En 2018, Mme Reid a pris un poste au ministère de l’Environnement et des Ressources naturelles et, dans le cadre de ses fonctions, elle s’est concentrée sur les questions de conservation et de développement durable dans les domaines législatif et politique, et ce, jusqu’à son élection comme députée.

Mme Reid a été présidente de la YWCA des TNO de 2021 à 2023 et de la section locale 40 du Syndicat des travailleurs du Nord en 2019 et de 2021 à 2023. Son leadership s’étend au domaine culturel, Kate Reid ayant été directrice de Folk on the Rocks, le festival de musique bien-aimé de Yellowknife, qui existe depuis longtemps. En outre, elle a contribué à des événements communautaires tels que NWT Pride, Yellowknife Pride et l’ancien spectacle d’art, Burn on the Bay.

En dehors de sa vie professionnelle, Kate Reid est mariée et trouve réconfort et inspiration dans toute une gamme de passe-temps; elle affectionne particulièrement la musique, l’art, le burlesque, le drag, le cinéma, l’haltérophilie et les voyages.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. And thank you for the admonishment; I will not grandstand in my questions anymore.

Mr. Speaker, my questions are for the Minister of Finance. As she knows, and from my previous line of questions, there have been changes to the CRA posting publicly the information around the lowest return airfare. Can she confirm as to whether or not her department is sharing that information widely with residents to make them aware of this change and to be able to access that information? Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, it's tax time. We're at the end of February. So I am going to bring up a perennial issue but not with the Minister of Finance, with the Minister of Infrastructure. Some folks might know Canadian North is no longer supplying the lowest return airfare. You have to go to CRA. And I have constituents asking me, and I will ask the Minister, what sort of engagement has the GNWT, Department of Infrastructure, done with the airlines to make sure that the CRA is considering our northern context? So along the line of integrated service delivery and little bit expanding, I think, on what my colleague was speaking to, I note in the business plan, and from corresponding with the Minister and his team, that we are expecting that ISD will move next into Inuvik and Fort Simpson this year. Hopefully that is still on track. But my question is about functional zero goals which EIA has noted will be established with integrated teams by the -- almost the end of this Assembly, March 2027. So my question is do we have a targeted timeline for which communities we're working...

Thank you, Mr. Chair. That's cautiously good news, I think, personally. But I do want to commend the Minister and his staff for listening to communication staff across the government. They do a lot of good work, and supports are definitely needed for them. So actually, yeah, pretty good to hear.

What I would like to know, if the Minister can elaborate on if there is a new approach being considered and if there is any sort of metrics or benchmarks that we were hoping to reach in terms of how we're showing that we're giving those folks good support. I'd love to hear it. Thank you, Mr. Chair.

I was trying to relay an example of urgency and decision-making, and I know that more cooks in the kitchen sometimes slows thing down, but is the Minister finding that there are clearer targets and pathways forward for these kinds of transitional and supportive housing pieces? It's -- I recognize there's lots of work going on in the background that we may not see as Regular Members, if it's -- you're basing your work off of the homelessness strategy, the Premier is basing his work off the homelessness strategy. Thank you very much. So in the item of emergency shelters, I'm just curious can the Minister please confirm that the reason the funding for that line item has dropped since 2023-2024 is because of a change in which department is actioning that line item or a different reason? Thank you, Mr. Chair.
